In the world
of food, restaurants and chefs, there is a lot of giving and serving.
Accordingly, we are not surprised, and always impressed, by the contributions of time, money and food that we see chefs and restaurants making to charity, around the region and country. As a leading culinary education institution, we try to do our share with fundraising, scholarships and the support of non-profits in our field.
Following is a summary of ICE®'s charitable support in the areas of:
- Ongoing support to education
- Hunger relief-at home and abroad
- Helping the New York City Community
- Disaster Response
- Support of culinary and foodservice trade groups

Careers Through Culinary Arts Program
ICE® President Rick Smilow is a board member and treasurer of Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP). C-CAP is a non-profit organization operating in eight U.S. cities, whose mission is to promote and provide career opportunities in the foodservice industry for underserved youth through culinary arts education and employment. In partnership with public schools, local businesses and organizations, C-CAP provides a host of services that include teacher training, jobs and internships, college and career advising, after-school programs, product donations and scholarships. Other aspects of ICE®'s support of C-CAP include:
- Granting an annual $25,000 scholarship to a NYC high school senior to attend ICE®. (2003 to 2006 total is $95,000.)
- Hosting the annual New York City scholarship competition cook-off.
- Hosting a one week cooking summer camp for high school students.
- In 2005, Rick Smilow served as Benefit Chair for the organization's annual honor's fundraiser, which raised $525,000.
International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP)
Through this professional organization, ICE® offers an annual $5,000 scholarship based on financial need and merit.
Women Chef and Restaurateurs (WCR)
ICE® offers two annual scholarships, totaling $10,000, based on financial need and merit through this professional organization. (2003 to 2005 total is $30,000.) ICE® also supports WCR's general programs by being a $5,000 sponsor of its annual conference and awards program.
